What you will need to get started

  1. The admin login information for your Shopify instance.

    1. Note: If you do not possess the correct credentials to access this information, please contact your system administrator or your Shopify representative. Locale does not have access to this nor do we provide this information.

  2. User login information for both your Locale instance, and your Shopify instance

    1. A trial account of Locale can also be taken for free by going to locale.to and selecting the “Get Started” button.

Supported content types & limitations

Supported content:

  • Products and descriptions,

  • SEO,

  • Theme information,

  • Templates,

  • Blogs,

  • Menu items.

Some limitations include:

  • When a live theme is changed, the translation content is not always included as it is store specific, not theme specific. Shopify is aware of this and have recommended users leave feedback on this here. This may also have an inflammatory impact on the analysis of suggested content for translation in Locale, if themes and templates are chosen.

  • Meta field data is not automatically processed for translation. If this is a necessary field for translation, as it can vary from use case to use case, please contact XTM International Support and we will be able to advise a solution.

  1. If you see an option to Connect, it means the Shopify connector has not yet been added to your Locale instance. To complete this step, see our article on Locale: Adding & configuring the Shopify Connector to Locale.

  2. Next, choose the source and target languages for your project.

  1. Selecting Add Project will start the project creation process, and Locale will analyze the files, and provide a word and segment count for the content which requires translation.

  1. Content can also be individually selected for translation based on the areas in which Locale can access the Shopify instance for translation. Select the Content tab at the top, and use the checkboxes to select/deselect the content for translation.

  1. Once content options have been modified, update the analysis by selecting the Settings tab at the top of the page, and scrolling down to the Connection section, and selecting the Synchronize button.

  1. When you are satisfied with the content selection, and synchronized your content again, return to the Languages tab. Using the green Push Content button in the top right corner of the page, select the translation method you would like to use to push your content for translation.
