Updating incorrect translations in TM segments directly in the XTM Cloud UI
Introduction
Sometimes, a phrase or an expression is translated into a particular language incorrectly throughout the entire project cycle. As a consequence, the incorrect translation ends up in your TM database. Later, it is (incorrectly) offered as a TM match in other XTM Cloud projects.
If you are only need to change the phrase or expression in a few TM segments (a relatively small number of TM records), or the phrase or expression is fairly short (usually no more than one word), you can make the changes manually, quickly, directly in the XTM Cloud UI. In these cases, there is no need to export your TM data, update it offline, manually and reimport it. The method described here is also less error-prone, as you do not have to watch out for the TM-specific settings in the XTM Cloud UI, as opposed to in a manual update. Nonetheless, it is good practice to consult with the XTM Support team before performing changes of this kind in a large TM.
Before you proceed, be sure to read the following article to have a good understanding of what it takes to manage your TM in XTM Cloud: How to manage a translation memory (TM) in XTM Cloud. |

Instructions
In XTM Cloud, go to TM → Manage.
Choose a Customer for which the XTM Cloud project has been created. If you suspect that the incorrect phrase also occurs in TM records created for other XTM Cloud customers, you might as well select All.
Select a Source and Target language combination in which the incorrect phrase occurs.
If the problem only involves one XTM Cloud project, select the relevant project from the Project dropdown.
Make sure you select the target checkbox in the Search in option.
You can only perform a Replace function in target segments, not source ones (due to safety restrictions).
In the Search phrase field, enter the phrase you want to correct.
Click the Search button to list all the TM records containing that phrase. It will be highlighted in green. Ensure that these really are the TM records that you want to update.
Next, enter the new phrase in the Replace with field.
Finally, update your TM records by using one of these three available buttons:
Replace → Only update the currently active TM record.
Replace/Next → Updates the currently active TM record and immediately goes to the next one, for you to review.
Replace all → Update all listed TM records at once.
IMPORTANT!
Please be extremely cautious when performing one of these actions: you cannot reverse them!
If you select Replace all, a confirmation window will pop up in which you see the number of TM records updated.
