Highlighting forbidden terms in XTM Workbench

Introduction

In XTM Cloud, there are a couple of ways to highlight (source- or target-segment) terms that must not be used in red, in XTM Workbench. We can therefore prevent linguists from translating particular source expressions or using some translations in the target segment. Users with the appropriate Terminologist rights can therefore set the actual status of a particular term at the level of its creation in the terminology base by selecting one of the possible statuses.

Guidelines

Highlighting terms in the source segment and terminology metadata

  1. For your terms to be highlighted red in XTM Workbench, you must first ensure that only using approved terms is deactivated (administrative privileges required!). Go to Configuration → Settings → Translation → Terminology → Terminology options, and deselect Disable term decoration. Do not forget to save the changes afterwards.

  1. While adding/managing a particular term, you can choose one of three available statuses that indicate why the term cannot be used:

  • Rejected,

  • Forbidden,

  • Not approved.

  1. As a result, in XTM Workbench, source terms with the Forbidden and/or Rejected statuses will be highlighted.

Furthermore, the corresponding translations of a particular source term which have either of the above-mentioned statuses will also be highlighted.

As such, they are also highlighted in the Terminology panel on the bottom right of the screen.

Highlighting terms in the target segment

For the expressions with either Rejected or Forbidden status to be highlighted in the target segment, a particular back-end configuration must be implemented on your server. As this can be done by the XTM International Support team, create a suitable ticket with the request.

Once the configuration has been created, the translations in question will be highlighted accordingly.

Good to know!

For as long as you have the relevant Terminologist rights enabled, you can freely change the status of a particular term directly in XTM Workbench, simply by clicking on it and choosing Edit term.
