Why am I unable to finish tasks in the XTM Cloud UI?
Introduction
Sometimes you might wonder why you cannot finish a particular task/job in a project in the XTM Cloud UI. Before raising a JSM request to the XTM International Support team, to ask for help, there are a couple of settings that you should check first, to rule out any incorrect confugurations in your XTM Cloud instance.
If you would like to learn about ways of finalizing tasks in the XTM Cloud UI, read the following article: How to submit a completed translation.
XTM UI options preventing task/job finalization
You might not be able to finish a task in XTM Cloud due to a couple of settings:
All segments must be completed to finish the task
It might be the case the All segments must be completed to finish the task option has been selected for the particular project workflow step that you are attempting to finish in a XTM Cloud project, in the project’s Workflow editor (Project editor → Workflow → Edit workflow tab screen):
As a result, a Linguist will not be able to finish this task from XTM Workbench unless all segments are set to Done.
IMPORTANT!
Project managers can still finish workflow steps like these in the Workflow tab:
Furthermore, if ICE and/or Leveraged matches are automatically locked, set them to auto-complete in the project’s settings (Project editor → General info → General info → Allow editing of ICE segments/Mark segments as locked when). Alternatively, allow assigned Linguists to unlock segments.
Checking consistency (QA)
You might experience that task finalization takes a long time after a Linguist clicks on the Finish button in XTM Workbench. This might be caused by a particular global option that has been selected in the XTM Cloud UI (Configuration → Settings → Translation → Workflow and access → Linguist workflow options).
The option is called Check inconsistency when linguist finishes any step (Checks for subcontracted projects are set in principal system). It offers a few quality-assurance tools that check overall translation consistency every time a user attempts to finish a workflow step from XTM Workbench.
The more options you select, the more time-consuming the process for finalizing a task will be, since relevant QA checks will run in the background at that time.
IMPORTANT!
Keep in mind that finalizing very large-scale files or huge segments can take a quite a long time!
Removal of permission to finish or reject tasks in XTM Workbench
You might also have not permitted your Linguists to finalize tasks at all, in the global settings in the XTM Cloud UI. This option can be selected in Configuration → Settings → Translation → Workflow and access → Linguist workflow options. The option is called Finish or reject tasks in XTM Workbench. If it is set to Do not allow, no internal Linguists (or LSPs) will be able to finish a workflow step from XTM Workbench.
The Finish button will then not be displayed in XTM Workbench at all.
Entering XTM Workbench in the read-only mode
Last but not least, you, as a Project Manager, might have accidentally entered XTM Workbench in the Read-only mode.
In this case, you will not be able to edit any segments, let alone finish the task in XTM Workbench since the Finish button will not be displayed as well.
