AI-driven auto-placement of inline tags in machine-translated (MT) text

AI-driven auto-placement of inline tags in machine-translated (MT) text

Introduction

XTM Cloud can perform AI-driven placement of inline tags in machine-translated (MT) text. This feature only works for projects that utilize one of the MT engines that are available in the XTM Cloud UI.

The feature can be enabled and configured separately for each MT engine available in XTM Cloud. Select Configuration → Settings → Translation → Machine Translation → (select an MT engine) → (scroll down to the section for the particular MT engine) →select the appropriate “Use auto inline tag placement” radio button. These radio buttons are described below this figure:

How does automatic inline tag placement work?

This feature uses the XTM NLP framework for the automatic placement of inline tags in machine-translated text.

As you can see, there are three options (radio buttons to choose from:

  • Never → If you select this radio button, inline tags are NOT processed by the auto-insert mechanism. XTM Cloud leaves the structure of the inline tags inside matches unchanged, as received from the selected MT engine.

  • Only incorrect inline tags → If you select this setting, inline tags are sent to the selected MT engine and the auto-insert mechanism only works for MT matches in which the inline tag structure is incorrect, for example:

    • too many inline tags in a match.

    • missing inline tags or too few inline tags in a match.

  • Always → If you select this setting, the auto-insert mechanism is applied to all matches received in a translation from the selected MT engine.

IMPORTANT!

Keep in mind that the auto inline tag placement feature will entirely solve the issue of accidental misplacement and/or removal of inline tags!

This AI-driven feature is not always 100% accurate, so the Linguist concerned must double-check the correctness of auto-placed inline tags in a particular target segment, and ensure that there are as many inline tags in the target segment as in the source segment, in XTM Workbench.

“Auto-insert inline tags” option

There is also an Auto-insert inline tags option, which is a separate out-of-the-box XTM Cloud feature. This feature has the same purpose as in the case of AI-driven auto placement of inline tags.
