Segment ID images

What are segment ID images?

In XTM Cloud, images related to segments can be uploaded so that linguists can view them in XTM Workbench. The functionality is based on segment ID matching. To enable it, segment ID generation rules must be configured in the back-end side of your XTM Cloud instance. For this purpose, contact the XTM International Support team to set the configuration for you. Use this form to create the request.

Segment ID images primarily enable linguists to see the actual context for the text they are translating. Once configured, segment IDs are displayed in a row under their segment content. This feature can be used for ID segment matching. It can also help the translator identify where the segment is located, in the project.

XTM Cloud supports segment IDs for almost all file extensions supported by XTM Cloud in general, except for:

  • Office formats: DOCX, PPT, PPTX, etc.

  • Adobe formats: AI, INDD, INDB, etc.

See a full list of file extensions supported by XTM Cloud here: File formats supported in XTM Cloud (select your XTM version and search for a phrase: language codes).

Things to remember about uploading images to a project

Once segment ID matching has been configured by the XTM International Support team, images must be uploaded to an XTM Cloud project, either during project creation or after project analysis. XTM Cloud will automatically match an individual image to the segment that has the same segment ID.

Ensure that you comply with these rules, to ensure that images are displayed correctly in XTM Workbench:

  1. Upload images in the Segment ID Images section, via the API or UI (Project editor → General Info → Segment ID Images).

IMPORTANT!

Supported file formats for images are PNG, JPG and GIF.

If there is such option to upload the Segment ID images in the XTM Cloud UI, then make sure that the project is not subcontracted (only the Contractor can do this).

  1. Place images in a ZIP folder. They must be zipped directly, as files, and not as a folder. To do that, you must select all files (not just the directory they are in) and add them to the ZIP folder.

  1. Uploaded images must have names that correspond to generated segment IDs in XTM Workbench. The segment ID images feature creates a column that lists images that have been uploaded. Each image is assigned to the segment that has the same segment ID as the image’s name. Therefore, when you want to add an image file to a specific string, the image file must have have a segment ID that has been defined in the ZIP file that you upload.
