Trados Studio: Locking segments according to match type
Introduction
The XTM Connect – Trados Studio plugin comes with a functionality for locking segments which contain a specific state qualifier (match type), in the Trados Studio editor. Depending on your requirements, you can define which segments are to be automatically locked when they are imported from XTM Cloud, in XTM Cloud XLIFF files, and rendered uneditable in the editor.
How does it work?
To specify which segments are to be locked on import, by segment state qualifier, proceed as follows:
In Trados Studio, select File → Options → File types.
Select the file type XTM Cloud XLIFF.
In it, select the Segment status mapping option. You see the Segment status mapping window. At the bottom, you will see the Segment locking section. It contains a list of XLIFF lock state qualifiers.
Specify which segments are to be locked on export to Trados Studio, from XTM Cloud, according to their segment state qualifier. To do so, select the checkbox beside each of the following state qualifiers, if you want segments with that state qualifier to be locked when they are imported into Trados Studio: Non-translatable (selected by default), ICE match, Leveraged match, Fuzzy match, Machine translation, Repeat, Fuzzy repeat.
Once you have decided which segments are to be locked, and clicked OK, then, in every subsequent task from XTM Cloud that is assigned to a particular user, relevant segments will be locked in the Trados Studio editor. For example, as you can see in the previous screenshot, three match types were selected: Non-translatable, ICE match, Leveraged match. Segments with that match type will be locked.
IMPORTANT! Keep in mind that a Linguist who is currently working on those segments can unlock them any time, by right-clicking on a particular segment and selecting the Unlock Segments option, at the bottom of the expand list. That being said, a locked segment might merely indicate to Trados Studio translators that it should just stay as it is, unchanged. |
