OCM: How to translate digital media assets
Introduction
XTM Connect – Oracle Content Management enables the user to submit digital media assets for translation in XTM Cloud, as well as the other three asset types that are eligible for translation, which are TEXT, LARGE TEXT and REFERENCE.
However, the process for translating digital media assets is a little more complex than just dragging the Media pane onto the Fields section of your Asset Type and attaching some files. This article provides a step-by-step procedure for setting the translation of a digital media asset into motion.
IMPORTANT!
Before any digital media assets can be translated in XTM Cloud, you must ensure that you enable the processing of media files in the Product media files section, by selecting the Enable processing of media files checkbox.
In the Extensions for source files section, select all file extensions that are to be supported:
Instructions
First of all, create a new digital asset type. In the Oracle CMS, go to Content → Asset Types → Create → Digital Asset Type.
Enter the basic information about the digital asset type and click Create.
Next, an editor will pop up. In the Media Types section, select the file extensions that you are going to support/use with this digital asset type.
Once completed, click Save to actually create your digital asset type and save the changes you have made in it.
IMPORTANT!
Make sure you will add a newly-created Digital Asset Type to your repository in the Oracle CMS (Content → Repositories).
Now, a newly-created digital asset type needs to be incorporated in our “normal” asset type. Make sure you create one if you have not done so previously. Go to Content → Asset Types → (edit a relevant Asset Type) → Definition, and add the Media pane to your Asset Type definition.
Next, click on the Edit option. Enter the basic information about this particular component and click Next.
In the next section, it is important that you select your newly-created digital asset type in the Select a digital asset type dropdown. Alternatively, you can include all digital asset types at once by selecting the All digital asset types checkbox. You also need to include the File asset type if your media is in the form of a file. After that, click OK and Save the changes in your Asset Type.
Finally, while creating a new content item which is to be translated in XTM Cloud, make sure you pick a suitable Asset Type that contains your Digital Asset Type.
Click on your Media asset.
Search for your digital asset and upload it.
Select the uploaded file, choose a relevant Asset Type, and click Done.
Next, in the Asset Types section, select your Digital Asset Type, select the file in question and click OK.
The selected media should now be attached.
Create and save your content item by clicking Save and then Done.
Once you have finished, you can finally send the created content item, which contains the file in question, for translation in XTM Cloud as usual.
Congratulations! You have successfully sent a digital media asset off for translation in XTM Cloud.
