WordPress: Naming convention for WordPress projects

Introduction

In WordPress, XTM Cloud project names are generated in a particular way, via the XTM Connect – WordPress plugin, depending on elements such as the project name prefix and batch name.

Keep in mind that, regardless of the content type that is sent to XTM Cloud for translation, the above two parts of the project naming convention can be set up freely, in the CMS, before submitting content for translation in XTM Cloud.

Specifics

Project prefix name

The first element is the Project name prefix. It is specified in XTM → XTM Settings → XTM WPML Connector Settings → XTM Settings. This field is optional so there is no requirement to enter a prefix. However, if you do so, the XTM Cloud project name will start with whatever text you have entered in the field, enclosed in square brackets. Example: [WordPress].

Batch name

The next customizable element is the batch name. It is specified in the content submission stage, when the actual content that is to be sent off to XTM Cloud is placed in the Translation Basket (WPML → Translation Management → Translation Basket → Set a batch name and deadline). The default batch name consists of the following elements, separated by a pipe (vertical line):

  • Website URL root name. Example: wordpress-test.

  • The phrase WPML.

  • Source language code of the content. Example: en.

  • Incrementing ordinal number that identifies the content item that is being sent off to XTM Cloud. Example: 317.

As a result, the XTM Cloud project name will contain this string, enclosed in square brackets (from the examples above): [wordpress test|WPML|en|317].

Reference ID

The last part of the XTM Cloud project name is the reference ID. This is also displayed in the Reference ID field for a particular project, in XTM Cloud (Project Editor → General info → General info). Every WordPress project is automatically assigned a reference ID by XTM Connect – WordPress.

Final XTM Cloud project name

Taking the above components altogether, the name of an XTM Cloud project will look like this: [WordPress][wordpress test WPML en 317] ID 1085.
