Introduction
GoogleSheets is one of the worlds most known, dynamic spreadsheet applications. When used for translation needs, it pairs perfectly with Lang Connector by Locale for a quick, and efficient automated translation workflow. By using a simple translation format and workflow, it’s easy to extract content for translation via your existing workflows, whether it’s a TMS, MT engine, or dedicated human for translation.
What you’ll need to get started
The Login link for Locale (https://app.locale.to/en/)
The username and password for the Google Account which contains the GoogleSheet for translation.
Note: If you do not possess the correct credentials to access this information, please contact your system administrator or support representative. Locale does not have access to this nor do we provide this information.
User login information for both your Locale instance, and your GoogleSheets account.
A trial account of Locale can also be taken for free by going to locale.to and selecting the “Get Started” button
Adding the GoogleSheets Connector to Locale
In order to add the GoogleSheets connector to your Locale instance, you’ll need the username and password information for the account you’d like to connect with locale.
Start by accessing your Locale instance with your username and password. Once logged into Locale (instructions on that can be found here) you’ll see a Dashboard which looks something like this image below.
Select the Add Project button and you’ll be presented with the Locale Connector Store.
Select the Document option in the menu filter to the left, and select the Create Project button under GoogleSheets in the first row.
Next is the OAuth screen for connecting your GoogleSheet instance to the Locale platform.
Make sure that the user account here matches the user account which contains the content to be translated.
Then confirm the permissions to allow reading, writing, and viewing.
Note: If content is in a view-only access right, Lang Connector cannot process the content for translation.
After this step, Lang Connector will connect with your GoogleSheets instance, and you’re ready for the project creation step.
Creating a Locale project with the GoogleSheets Connector
Once you’ve followed the steps above to configure the GoogleSheets connector, you’re almost ready to create a project. It's also important to understand the document formatting and language mapping that must be in place for Lang Connector and the Locale platform to be able to properly handle your request. The first step is to choose the GoogleSheets page which contains your content for translation
Next, choose the source and target languages for your project, and select Add project.
Locale will begin by analyzing the content found in the GoogleSheet page, and show the number of words and segments required for translation.
Choosing the Content tab will give you an overview of the content pieces that have been accessed for translation by Lang Connector
Once your content has been pushed for translation, it will automatically be placed back into the GoogleSheet under the appropriate target language columns, and the status in Locale will show Completed.
