Introduction
As you know, XTM Cloud offers a vast range of reports that display certain data about projects. For more information about types of project-related report available in the XTM Cloud UI, read the following article: Costs & Metrics reports.
You might come with a request to obtain a total number of source word count for all projects created within a particular time range. The easiest way to obtain such value would be to do it via the Assignment and words report.
This article presents a step-by-step procedure for obtaining a total number of source words for the projects included in the scope.
Instructions
In XTM Cloud, go to Projects → Project list → Advanced search.
In the Advanced Search section, select
All Projects
from the Project status dropdown, and selectCustom range
from the Date created dropdown. In it, specify a time range in which your projects have been created, and click Apply. Finally, press Search.
Next, switch to the Actions tab and select Reports → Costs and Metrics from the dropdown. Click Run.
In the popup, select the Assignment and Words report from the Report type dropdown. Also, make sure to select the Search projects only checkbox; this is especially important. Select
All
from the Status dropdown. Click Run.
Alternatively, you can omit the Advanced search tab, and just specify the project range in the Date created field in the Costs and Metrics popup, from step 4.
Open the generated Excel report.
The report displays a total source word count for each and every XTM project included in the report, in the Total Word count (AD) column.
To receive the value of all source words from the processed projects, you need to utilize the Excel =SUM function. Simply provide the first and last cell containing the word count for a particular project, and redirect the output to some vacant cell.
IMPORTANT!
Sometimes you might observe that in some of the projects included in the report the Total word count column displays the null (–) value.
The possible root cause of the issue is that the projects in question have no assignments and/or contain only Auto steps:
If you wish to obtain words for such projects as well, you can try a different report that does not contain assignments; for example, Metrics, custom field included. However, this will require summing up values from all TM match types though.
