Introduction

This article presents instructions for installing and configuring XTM Connect – Trados Studio.

Installation process

  1. Turn on Trados Studio.

  2. Open the XTM connector plugin with Plugin Manager (or double-click on the XTM connector plugin if the .sdlplugin extension is associated with Plugin Manager).

  3. Select the correct Trados installation and the location where you want to install the plug-in. Click the Next button.

  4. When the installation is complete, click Finish. When you open Trados Studio, you should see the XTM connector installed correctly.

Connectors Basics

Once the XTM Connector is installed and you open Trados Studio, you should see the XTM Tasks tab.

It is necessary to log in to the XTM connector with a linguist account. A Trados Connector license (or API license) in XTM Cloud is required for correct login.

Actions

In Actions, you can:

  • Download the XTM task source file;

  • Download the source file for the XTM task and create a project for it;

  • Upload the translation for a selected XTM task to the XTM Cloud;

  • Upload the translation for a selected XTM task to XTM Cloud and automatically finish the workflow step for that task;

  • Finish the workflow step for the selected XTM task.

Options

In Options, you can:

  • Click the Download Logs button. This will generate a ZIP package containing the logs and a SQLITE database used to store some data. You can use this option if you are asked to attach some additional data when reporting a problem.

  • Click the Release Notes button to open the release notes in the browser.

  • Click the Help button to open the connector documentation in the browser.

  • Click the Log out button, which will log the user out of the connector.

Filters tab

The Filters tab allows you to filter the list of XTM tasks:

  • XTM project name,

  • Trados Studio project name,

  • XTM workflow step,

  • Trados Studio project status,

  • XTM due date,

  • Trados studio due date.

Translation project in Trados

If we want to work on XTM tasks, it is necessary to create a translation project first. Thanks to this, the XTM tasks will be bound to the created project.

It is possible to create a single project for several XTM tasks. Once the project is created, it is not possible to add new XTM tasks to it.

To create a project in Trados, select a task (or tasks) and click the Download source file and create Trados Studio project option.

In the project creation form we can:

  • Select a Trados project template,

  • Set the project name,

  • Set the path where the project will be created,

  • Set the project due date.

Once the project has been created, it can be found in the Project tab.

Trados Studio Editor

To open the Editor, you need to open a project in Trados Studio. The left-hand tab allows you to switch between different target languages. Once you have the file you want to translate, simply double-click on it to open the editor:

  • You can make translations in the editor.

  • You can change the status of the segments.

  • You can list comments and add new ones as needed.
