Introduction

The aim of the XTM Visual Mode is to show you a preview of the source and target file so that you are then able to click on the text in the preview and enter a translation in the target segment. The target preview is immediately updated with the translation which allows you to see the full context of your translation as you are working on it.

Supported formats

The XTM Visual mode in Workbench supports the following formats:

InDesign files (IDML is recommended)

HTML

MS Office Word files (e.g. DOCSX)

PDF (only editable PDF files are supported)

XML

IMPORTANT!

InDesign is a paid feature and requires a special connector with XTM. Please, contact the XTM Sales team for more information by writing to the following email address: sales@xtm.cloud.

Furthermore, in order to view XML files in the Visual mode it is necessary to configure the system with the relevant XSLT style sheets prior to creating the project. To do it, please, raise a proper ticket to the XTM Support team for assistance: support@xtm-intl.com.

Guidelines

  1. While opening up Workbench for a given file (please, click here for more information), you will notice an additional option in a pop-up window: Open in Visual mode. Check this option and proceed.

You can also switch over to Visual Mode directly from the Workbench level by going to Visual mode → Enable in the Workbench.

2. Click some text in the visual view to display the corresponding segment in Workbench, then type your translation there, and confirm the segment. The text for editing becomes highlighted in yellow.

Match-based text highlighting

Apart from the currently active text being displayed in yellow (as shown above), the text that obtained either an ICE match or MT (machine translation) match is highlighted in light green and purple respectively in the target language.

You can disable the highlighting entirely by selecting Hide decoration in Visual mode settings:

As shown above, you can also disable visual mode by selecting Disable from the drop-down.

Visual mode preview

You can also open a preview mode in a separate tab by selecting the Open Visual mode preview in secondary window from "three dots" located on the top right corner of the page:
