Minimize file volume for onCloud instances

Minimize file volume for onCloud instances

Introduction

The storage quota for your onCloud instance depends on your XTRF plan. When you are about to reach the maximum allowed storage limit, you will receive a notification prompting you to delete some files or increase your storage quota.

Limiting storage on the cloud is a preventive measure. In case of a major server failure, the amount of data on disk determines how quickly we can restore your XTRF Platform. The more files there are, and the bigger they are, the longer it takes for a server to be completely up and operational. Therefore, we encourage our onCloud clients to keep older files backed up locally by archiving and downloading them via SFTP.

You can check how much space is left in the OnCloud storage and request more space via the XTRF Self-Service Manager. For details, see the Use the XTRF Self-Service Manager (SSM) | OnCloud storage quota guide.

I. Request SFTP access to your files

You can access your project files in XTRF folders directly using the SFTP protocol. To request SFTP access, contact XTRF Support.

SFTP access serves your archiving and backup needs. It should not be used for daily operations and day-to-day project management.

II. Archive your projects

Archiving projects allows you to save space and prepare project files to be moved elsewhere.

After you archive a project, its meta-data remains searchable and accessible, and project files are zipped into one password-protected file. The zipped file is moved to a new disk location, which by default is /xtrf_archive

For more details on archiving, see the Archive projects and quotes guide.

You can access your archived files via SFTP.

III. Move the archived files to another location

The archive folder can take up lots of space from the available storage. To free up the space for your current projects, regularly move the archived files to another location via the granted SFTP access.
