What is the difference between named and floating licences?

The information below applies only to the Home Portal. There are no licensing limitations in Client or Vendor Portals.

XTRF no longer offers floating licenses to new users.

Named licenses are considered standard in XTRF. They will always let you log into the system.

Floating licenses are used when there are more users than free login slots. They were usually offered to bigger teams that worked in different time zones. Once users from one time zone logged out, users in another time zone could log in using the licenses that were just freed up.

For floating license users, you can specify the session period. This is the amount of time during which a user cannot be checked out by another user. To do so, go to the Configuration menu → General Configuration → Security → Session tab and enter the required number In the Floating License Checkout Period (in minutes) field.

The value should be between 5 and 180 and lower than the value of the Session Timeout field above.
