Custom text formatting in XTM Workbench

Custom text formatting in XTM Workbench

Introduction

By default, text formatting in source and target segments in XTM Workbench is represented by green numbers in curly brackets, e.g. {1}.

However, for some file formats, an XTM Cloud feature enables users to add some additional formatting in the target text. Otherwise, if this feature is disabled, the same number of numbers must be present (in curly brackets) in the source and target texts when a task is finished in XTM Workbench.

Configuration

Global level

To enable this feature, which permits users to add additional formatting in target texts, globally, go to Configuration → Settings → Translation → Workflow and access → Text formatting, and select Allow text formatting.

To enable the default XTM Cloud settings for the file formats listed in the File formats setting, select the System default checkbox.

The eligible file formats are: Word, Excel, Powerpoint (pptx), HTML, XML and inDesign.

IMPORTANT!

Keep in mind that, once the feature has been enabled, users will not be permitted to generate offline translation files, such as XLIFF, Excel Editor or TIPP files. This is because the added text formatting tags are not standard and can only be used in XTM Workbench.

Customer level

When text formatting is enabled in XTM Cloud globally, a new text formatting section is displayed in the Text formatting screen. [Customer settings [Customers → Customer list (select a customer) → Settings → Text formatting.] In it, users can set individual text formatting settings.

How does the feature work?

In XTM Workbench, the text formatting feature is only available for projects created AFTER the text formatting option has been enabled and for the file formats that have been specified either in the XTM Cloud configuration or in a specific XTM Cloud customer setting.

You can specify custom formatting in target texts in these projects by right-clicking on a target text and selecting the Text formatting option from the context menu.

You can then select one of the available formatting options from the list and apply it. The text in which custom formatting has been applied will be marked with valid, appropriate inline tags.
