Working with Video Preview in XTM Cloud

Introduction

This article explains the video preview feature in XTM Cloud.

IMPORTANT!

If you reside on XTM PVC or Suite instance, for the Video Preview feature to appear, an relevant license needs to be manually deployed on your server. For this purpose, contact the XTM Support team.

How does Video Preview work?

The video preview feature supports SRT files. SRT is a common subtitle file format. An SRT file can be added during the project creation stage (in the Video preview section) or in the project’s settings. To access them, select Project Editor → Files. SBV files can also be used to provide subtitles, simply by changing the SBV file extension to SRT.

Note that you can only add preview links after adding a subtitle file. The URL cannot be passed through API. Also:

Keep in mind that only direct links to videos from YouTube, and Vimeo are supported. Unfortunately, channels and short videos are not currently supported. This is an example of how to format the short video to create a URL that works:

As you can see, the following changes must be made:

  1. Remove www. part.

  2. Remove/shorts/ part.

  3. Change http://youtube.comto http://youtu.be.

It is planned implement improvements in XTM Cloud to support links to YouTube Shorts and to support a second file format (VTT) in the future.

Video Preview feature in XTM Workbench

General view

Video preview in XTM Workbench is displayed in the form of a video player with all basic buttons and shortcuts functionality like play, stop, pause, etc. and acts as any other XTM Workbench tab – it can be scaled, moved, swapped with other stabs and opened in a secondary window. Using video progress bar allows you to jump to different parts of the video and automatically focuses on the corresponding translation segment. Additional modifiers, such as inline tags or LTR languages are displayed correctly in video preview.

Below are marked the most prominent features related to Video Preview.

  1. Video preview can be enabled and disabled via the corresponding option

  2. Timestamps (Start time and End time) can be used to navigate to particular points in the video

  3. A option to display either source or target text in subtitles is also available.

  4. Video preview can be unlinked from translation segments. This will cause video preview and translation segments to operate independently of each other – changing video progress will not change a focused segment, and the other way round. Any changes made to segments will be displayed on the video preview all the same.

  5. You can always open Video Preview in a secondary window if you deem it more convenient while using the feature.

Shortcuts for Video Preview

In XTM Workbench, go to Settings → Shortcuts → Video, and set a shortcut for one of the four main actions:

IMPORTANT!

Make sure that the translated subtitles are correctly aligned with the video.
