Introduction
Xbench, developed by ApSIC Localization Solutions, is a third-party program for performing Quality Assurance checks and managing Terminology. In terms of integration with the system, Xbench might be perceived as an “enhancement” to the integral XTM Cloud QA module.
Every Xbench package generated from XTM Workbench that is uploaded into a program has a number of predefined checks for spotting common errors such as inconsistencies, missing or unmodified translations, spelling mistakes, mismatch in numbers or tags, deviations from key terminology, etc.
IMPORTANT!
Keep in mind that Xbench is not included in the XTM Cloud subscription and requires a separate license.
Also, XTM Cloud requires Xbench 3.0 build 1434 or higher to be installed on your computer.
How to enable and use Xbench
Activating Xbench
To enable Xbench in XTM Cloud in general, you first need to enable Linguists to use Xbench. For this purpose, as the user with administrative privileges, go to Configuration → Settings → Translation → Workflow and access → Linguist general options, and select the Allow linguists to use Xbench option.
Do not forget to save the changes.
IMPORTANT!
If the Linguist uses the Anonymization option in XTM Workbench, they will not be able to use Xbench. For more information, read the following article: How to enable Anonymization.
Using Xbench
First of all, make sure you have the Xbench program installed on your device.
Next, as the Linguist assigned to a workflow step in which you want to use Xbench, make sure that some segments have already been translated in XTM Workbench.
Next, select the QA dropdown and select Open Xbench.
An XBPKG file will be generated. Xbench files have the .xbpkg extension added to the name of the original source file. For example, for a file called source_file.txt, the Xbench file will have the name source_file.txt.xbpkg. Select the green notification at the bottom of the screen to download the file.
Now, open the Xbench program and log into your account.
Select the Project dropdown in the top ribbon bar and click Open….
Once the package is loaded, you can go to the QA tab (in Xbench) and click on Check Ongoing Translation. You will be presented with a complete list of segments (in the XTM Cloud workflow step you are working in) which contain QA errors.

Good to know!
It is not possible to generate a single Xbench package for all the source files in a particular XTM Cloud project. It is only possible to do so for one source file at a time and then review it in the Xbench program.
