Introduction
This article provides answers to questions frequently asked by clients when they begin working with the Bridge connector.
Questions and answers
Q1. Why was my project not created in XTM?
A: There could be a few reasons why the project did not arrive at your XTM instance.
The first thing worth checking is the package itself if it was not moved to the “invalid” directory.
In most cases, it could be related to a wrong folder structure of the uploaded package or using the wrong language code.
The second reason is the situation when we are using the new language code which was not mapped previously in the connector configuration.
The third reason which is happening rarely is the downtime of the connector instance.
Q2. Why was my project not retrieved on the FTP?
A: If the project did not arrive to your FTP once it was completed it is worth checking if the target files were properly generated (without any errors in the “Files” tab), under the history of the target generation we should be able to identify if the target was properly generated by the connector user.
Q3. How Bridge can determine the target languages?
A: We have a few options to determine from which place Bridge should inherit the languages:
1. Hardcode one target language,
2. Determine the target languages through the language folder in the package structure, which requires uploading the source files via proper folders named by the language code,
3. Determine the language by the file name where we can include the language code within the file name.
Q4. Why not all files are being passed to XTM?
A: It is possible that the connector was configured to pass only a specific file extensions for translation and it basically omit some other files.
Q5. Why I can not connect to the FTP to upload the package?
A: Most frequently this happens when one of the IPs that you are using has not been whitelisted. In some cases, the whitelisted is IP of the VPN that our clients are using, therefore without the connection to the company VPN while working remotely the connection the the FTP cannot be established.
In this case, we can add the currently used IP to the whitelist via a support ticket or try to connect via VPN that we are using on a daily basis.
Q6. Why my package was moved to the “Invalid” directory?
A: When the package is moved to the invalid directory it means that connector is working since it processed new files. However for some reason Bridge was not able to create a project from the respective package.
Most probably this was happened due to the reasons pointed out in the first question described in this article.
Q7. Why do the files disappear from the “import” directory on FTP?
A: If the files disappeared from the “import” directory this indicates that the connector processed the files. They can be moved to the directory that stores the ongoing projects, by default named as “created” or to “invalid” if the uploaded package will not result in the project creation, ref. question 6th.
Q8. Can I use different Templates while creating projects via Bridge?
A: Yes, if you are not using the one hardcoded template we can set the connector to inherit them from the folder structure of the package uploaded to FTP, for example, Template_ID/Project_name/Files.
Q9. Can I use different Customers while creating a project via Bridge?
A: The Bridge is allowing us to use different customers determined by the folder with the Customer name or ID in the folder structure.
Q10. Can I add reference files to the projects using Bridge?
A: We can set the Bridge to upload the reference files to the project as well. In this case, we need to determine the exact folder name where Bridge should be watching for the files that have to be added as references into the XTM Project.
Q11. Can I upload the zip package via Bridge?
A: Bridge is allowing us to upload the translation files in the .zip format. However in this case we need to determine how the connector should behave if the .zip is being uploaded.
We can upload the zip which should be sent directly to XTM, or we can extract it on the FTP before the project creation.
In case we are using the folder structure of the packages that allows us to inherit different Customers, templates etc. from its structure, then the extracting of the package before it will be moved to XTM is the best way to go.
Q12. How often the Bridge is checking the folders on FTP in order to determine that new files arrived?
A: In the connector configuration we can determine the waiting time between the loops of checking the FTP, creating projects and their statuses, which means that If projects creation etc. from one iteration take 1 minute, the time between loops will be 1 minute plus the set waiting time. By default waiting time is set to 1 minute.
Q13. Why do target files arrive in separate folders with language codes?
A: This depends on the connectors configuration, where we can determine if the target files should be placed under the subfolders with language code or we should omit them.
