Introduction
Below are the most common problems clients put forward in tickets with regard to the aligning feature.
Before consulting the below article, you may wish to familiarize yourself with our general article on the Aligning feature that describes the key points of its mechanism: Aligning feature. |

Issue description & Solution
Languages are not displayed in the align drop-down
XTM displays a wide range of languages you can choose from. Please, keep in mind that not all the languages which are available in XTM are also available in the aligning process.
Solution: Before attempting to align files, please, make sure that the languages you want to use in the aligning process are indeed available in their respective Source language and Target language drop-downs in the Align form.
Alignment failed for some files/languages
There might be plenty of reasons why the alignment might have failed - from the server malfunction to the problem with source files themselves. For example, the alignment will fail if the analysis of the input files cannot be properly performed. This might be caused by the situations when the file is improperly structured (e.g. missing nodes) or because of the improperly working filter for a given file format.
Solution: In order to commence troubleshooting on your side, you can always perform the following steps to confirm if the above one is the case:
Create a sample project using the files used for alignment.
Check if the analysis was successful.
If not, please, raise a ticket to the XTM Support team and provide details on the issue.
Upload limit
Please note that the standard alignment file upload size for any XTM server is set by default to 150MB, separately for source and target file. If you exceed this limit, you will receive the JSON 500 error message with an additional UI message about the failed align.
Solution: In order to bypass this limitation, please try the following:
Zip your files and attempt to re-upload them.
If the above solution is still not yielding any results, please, attempt to portion your files and upload them in a succession. A good way to reduce your files' overall size is to remove any instances of repeated segments.
The difference in files' volume
Aligning, as the name suggests, is a matching process of source segment to a target segment. Therefore, if there is a big difference in the number of segments between two files, aligning will fail.
Solution: A good way to measure how many segments a given file has is to create a test project in XTM for each file and then to compare what is displayed either in the Workflow or Metrics section of this project.
Aligning files takes too much time
Solution: There are two possible causes for such an issue:
Your file is waiting in the alignment queue and waiting for other company's file to finish aligning. In such a case, we kindly ask for extra patience.
You have chosen a given language combination to align for the first time. It means that the system has to generate a proper dictionary before the process can be started. When aligning for that specific language combination for the second time, the dictionary is then reused, thus shortening the overall process.
The dictionaries might be missing for some unpopular language combinations that are being executed in the aligning process first time round.
Each combination requires a dictionary, but they are working in both ways; so, for example, the English (USA) → Polish alignment will use the same dictionary as Polish → English (USA) alignment. Furthermore, the dictionaries are not distinguished between language variations, so English (USA) and English (UK) will use the same dictionary.
