Excessive number of green inline tags in segments – character spacing

You might sometimes experience some redundant green inline tags in-between words, in XTM Workbench. If you take a look at the { } Inline tags section in the docked panel, you will see what those tags refer to specifically.

...

Solution: This issue stems from the fact that the Character spacing between some of the words in the sentences is not consistent with the overall character spacing across the whole text field in your source file. In other words, character spacing might be different per sentence or even word. Therefore, XTM Cloud is forced to decode this information in the form of an inline tag to, show the said differences.

To access the character spacing settings in your MS Word source file:

  1. Mark a certain part of the text.

  2. Right-click on the text.

  3. Select Font….

  4. Switch to the Advanced tab and adjust Spacing. You will have two options to choose from:

  • Expanded,

  • Condensed.

By highlighting different parts of the text, you will probably see that the value in the box on the right differs. If you would like to reduce the number of inline tags in your segments for this file in XTM Workbench, you need to adjust this character spacing value so that it is consistent across the a text field.
