Solution: Since XTM Cloud, due to the InDesign files' specification, has no technical means to address this issue, it is advised either to design your files to be ready for future translation or to engage in an additional DTP step. Design text boxes so that there is plenty of space left for translation texts, which might be significantly longer than the source text.

Extra text added for translation that cannot be found in the source file – metadata

Another type of content that you might sometimes see in some segments in XTM Workbench which are not visible in the source file is metadata. It is now possible to be extracted for translation.

This metadata can be found in both INDD as well as IDML files and this extra text can usually be viewed by selecting a given image, then clicking the Window dropdown and selecting the Info window. Then, in the Info window, click on the button in the upper right corner for the more detailed information. Here you can find the image’s title, description, and keywords, among other fields. For more information, make sure to read the following document: Metadata: Where to find it, how to add it.

Solution: Contact the XTM Support team and request creation of a proper configuration that will exclude the metadata content from translation in XTM Cloud.
